Dettagli
This itinerary goes across Umbria and Tuscany regions to trace back historic places where two great Renaissance masters have left masterpieces of great importance for the Italian artistic heritage. The guided tour begins in Tuscany, in the charming ancient village of Monterchi, where Renaissance artist Piero della Francesca, born in Borgo Sansepolcro, painted one of his most famous frescoes: the “Madonna del Parto”, an iconic depiction of the Virgin Mary shown as pregnant.
Continuing the tour, a few kilometers away from Monterchi we reach Citerna, in Umbria, recognized as one of the “most beautiful villages in Italy”. In Citerna we visit the small Church-Museum of Saint Francis displaying prized Donatello’s “Madonna with Child”. This sculpture, recently renovated, is one of the most warm-hearting works of the preeminent Florentine artist. The tour also includes a visit to the historic centers of the two ancient villages.
