“Sasso di San Donnino” also called the Donnino “Stones” on Rubbiano Mount is where Saint Domninus, a layman who then became venerated Saint, retired to a hermitage settlement and lived from the late 6th century till the first decade of the 7th century.
During the guided tour, visitors see a small antique chapel; a spring with a reputation for miraculous healing due to the belief that its waters can treat rabies, as Domninus has been from earliest times invoked for curing symptoms in humans after rabid animal bites; and the famous “stones” of the Saint, on which, for more than a thousand years, people have been resting their knees or backs to reduce ‘bone aches’.
Mothers would help their children lay their backs on the stones to relieve ‘kidney pain’. According to popular belief, the Saint protects against toothache, as well.
